Album

The end results are consistently astonishing. At the center of Steamin', as with most outings by this band, are the group improvisations which consist of solo upon solo of arguably the sweetest and otherwise most swinging interactions known to have existed between musicians. Surrey With the Fringe on Top is passed between the mates like an old joke. Steamin' with the Miles Davis Quintet is a studio album by the Miles Davis quintet, recorded in 1956 but not released until July or August 1961. Two sessions on May 11, 1956 and October 26 in the same year resulted in four albums: this one, Relaxin' with The Miles Davis Quintet, Workin' with The Miles Davis Quintet and Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet. Prestige LP 7200: Miles Davis trumpet. John Coltrane tenor saxophone except 3 and 6. Red Garland piano. Paul Chambers bass. Cookin' With The Miles Davis Quintet - The Miles Davis Quintet. Steamin' With The Miles Davis Quintet - The Miles Davis Quintet. The Miles Davis Quintet was an American jazz band from 1955 to early 1969 led by Miles Davis. The quintet underwent frequent personnel changes toward its metamorphosis into a different ensemble in 1969. Most references pertain to two distinct and relatively stable bands: the First Great Quintet from 1955 to 1958 and the Second Great Quintet from late 1964 to early 1969, Davis being the only constant throughout. Trumpeter Miles Davis led several sessions for Prestige Records between November 1955 and October 1956 with his legendary first quintet, featuring tenor saxophonist John Coltrane, pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Philly Joe Jones. The sessions represent an incomparable musical legacy. I love the Miles Davis Quintets. I know Miles was a forerunner of the blessed modal post-bop era that started about 1959. The album is, of course, great. However, I bought it from importcds, who did not include my autorip and ignored me when I contacted them regarding same. Avoid importcds, and buy this great record elsewhere
