The fact that Gatecrasher Global Sound System is probably the most creatively successful effort for the super-club's series should say quite a bit. Responding to diminishing returns with a tighter, more effective mix of quality tracks that highlight both the scene's obscure talents Subtle By Design, Flutlicht, etc. and overground stars Cygnus X, Paul Van Dyk, the feeling of recapturing a clogged scene is a potent one. Gatecrasher-Global Sound System. Gatecrasher Series Format: Audio CD. Fortunately, Global Soundsystem discontinues the Gatecrasher compilation trend of cramming only the most popular 'choons' into two discs. Warrior, Rhinekraf, Heaven's Gate, are not on a lot of mix discs right now. Still we have the inevitable Dreaming, Natural Blues, and Air. I absolutely love Gatecrasher: Global Sound System. It is the fifth release, following two amazing predecessors before it in Wet and Disco-Tech. It had a lot to live up to, but it really stands up for me by today's standards. The first disc is my favourite of the two, containing all of these sensational hits including the intro - Planisphere's The Lost Planet, Oliver Lieb's Subraumstimulation (Push Remix) and Oliver Klein's Rheinkraft Everything after this however is the holy grail of trance containing Freon's Heaven's Gate, Human Movement's Love Has Come Again, Afterburn's Fratt Boy, Cygnus X's Superstring (Rank 1 Remix), Coast 2 Coast's Home, Subtle By Design's Kali Yuga and Freefall's Skydive. It is honestly one platinum gem!The second disc is the inferior one for me, but it is still awesome. It starts off with Aria's Dido, Albion's Air 2000, James Holden's Horizon which are beautiful and then we have my two favourite songs of the CD which are Terra Ferma's The Adventures of, and Delerium's Silence (with After The Burn's North Pole between them), Warrior's Warrior, Flutlicht's Mutterkorn, Kundalini Rising's Kayomani, Embargo!'s Hysterie and Miss Shiva's Dreams. So yeah, what a fantastic quality CD.Overall, Global Sound System is my favourite Gatecrasher release of all time as it seems to nail everything.
This album should be my favourite of all time but there is just one other that only beats it by a hair due to the era and journey. Both CDs here are amazing, but I will say the first is the superior one. Just mind blowing, and sadly this was the last release of gatecrasher I liked until classics in 2005.
Right with you there, mate! Such a great album. Going to listen to it again tonight! Proper journey.
One of the best Trance mix CDs I've ever heard. It even stands up in the modern day.. great selection and mixing.
First disc is really good, but the second disc is the killer. It has so many great tracks from beginning to end, especially starting at track 11. It's some good ol' bangin' trance, the kind you want at about 2-3am when your out of your head. The collection also has several songs that became staple hits of the genre. Many of these tracks made me seek out it's vinyl companion. I like the intro to the second disc with the sample from James Bond's "Moonraker". Key songs are Delerium "Silence" (although thoroughly played out), The Warrior "Warrior", and my personal favorite Kundalini Rising "Kayomani". The album finishes out very nicely after these tracks too.
The first cd is what you expect from a Gatecrasher CD, uplifting trance / progressive trance. The first cd has a great track listing, and I give it 4 out of 5. The second CD is full of the harder, faster, more boring hard trance / hard house which I am not keen on. This type of music is getting more and more common in compilations like Gatecrasher. It's a personal preference, but I prefer more 'music' in the music I listen to. 2 out of 5 for the second CD (let down by the second half - too hard/repetitive for my taste). Average score (whole CD) 3 out of 5, brought down by the second CD not being as good as the first (but still acceptable)
