Pal Joey On Broadway - Harold Lang. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Pal Joey is a musical with a book by John O'Hara and music and lyrics by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. The musical is based on a character and situations O'Hara created in a series of short stories published in The New Yorker, which he later published in novel form. The title character, Joey Evans, is a manipulative small-time nightclub performer whose ambitions lead him into an affair with the wealthy, middle-aged and married Vera Simpson. It includes two songs that have become standards: I Could. Pal Joey, Rodgers and Hart's Broadway musical of late 1940, based on John O'Hara's epistolary short stories about a Chicago low-life who manipulates women, was considered overly cynical in its first production and was only a modest financial success. It also came just before the advent of original cast albums, and therefore went unrecorded. The resulting album, released in early 1951, had a tremendous impact, leading to a revival production of the show starring Segal and Lang that opened at the start of 1952. Album 1952 14 Songs. A fine studio recording made by Columbia with original star Vivienne Segal Vera Simpson and Harold Lang replacing Gene Kelly as Joey. Terrific orchestrations and delivery of the excellent Rodgers & Hart songs. This recording led to a 1952 Broadway revival of PAL JOEY that found better audience and critical acceptance than the original 1940 production
