Wild Seeds were a roots-rock band from Austin, Texas formed in 1984. Michael Hall, the band's lead vocalist and guitarist, was inspired to found the band by successful post-punk bands of the time, including the Fleshtones and Dream Syndicate. The band broke up in 1989. They have been identified as one of multiple New Sincerity bands active during the 1980s, along with the Dharma Bums, True Believers, and Zeitgeist. The Wild Seeds never became a household name, or a dorm-room favorite. Indeed, while the band received multiple kudos from the rock press, they never really got their 15 in the limelight. Fame, however, doesn't always measure quality or influence. I'm Sorry, I Can't Rock You All Night Long collects 72 minutes of prime cuts from the Wild Seeds' one EP and two albums recorded between 1984 and 1989. Catchy hooks and lots of guitar read: no synthesizers grace early pieces like She Said and Come Outside and Play, while spunky cuts like Let's. Doctors' Mob were considered the direct corollary to Minneapolis' Replacements at the time, but the Wild Seeds came close, slowly maturing and polishing to no commercial avail and ending up with leader Michael Hall going the way of Paul Westerberg - as in further aging into an aching, heartfelt solo singer-songwriter, not becoming stagnant and predictable. This best, worst, and never-was collection of Seeds shoulda-been-hits like the title track, live versions, and unreleased material from the band's myriad lineups is as hit-and-miss as the above impli.
